Normally you would think that being lazy should charge our energies to help us go through the day. But we’ve all had some moments where just lifting a finger or even taking a shower feels like a very difficult task and you just want to stay in bed all day, right?

But is being lazy exhausting? Let’s find out

First of all, let’s make it clear that being lazy and tired are two different things. Our body get tired from doing all sort of activities throughout the day, whilst laziness is often associated with relaxing and taking a break from those activities.

When we choose to be lazy, we find ourselves in a cycle of inertia. Instead of recharging our body’s energy, we may end up draining it and feeling more exhausted and unmotivated. Sometimes the lack of physical and mental stimulation can lead to a sense of boredom, causing our bodies and minds to feel fatigued.

Ironically, being the one true lazy also require an effort. The act of avoiding tasks, neglecting responsibilities, and not doing activities that could be fulfilling could lead to a sense of guilt or a realization that doing nothing is a waste of time, that is called an emotional burden.

Furthermore, laziness could negatively impact the health of the body as a whole. As mentioned above, lack of physical stimulation could lead to different health issues. For example, the absence of regular exercise could contribute to weight gain, weak muscles, and heart issues. While avoiding our mental issues could stop our personal growth and hinder our journey toward self improvement and if worsened could lead to some suicidal cases.

So, is being lazy exhausting?

Yes, while it’s not necessarily the same kind of exhaustion that comes from a busy day at work, it can certainly drain our motivation energy, and even self-esteem.

It’s emotionally exhausting

To prevent this, you could balance relaxing with productive activities that help you achieve true rejuvenation without falling into the laziness trap. You could set goals, break down some big tasks, and create a routine to motivate yourself into doing something other than be lazy.

For myself, I usually finish an easy task first during the day. In order to distract my mind from wanting to sleep 24/7, I moved on to another task and distracted myself from it. I use Notion (not sponsored) to manage my daily activities including physical exercise and as a diary for a medium to pour my thoughts. I’m not gonna lie to you but sometimes I could also be lazy, but I’m determined to not be lazy.

Sometimes it’s okay to be lazy, but don’t make laziness your comfort zone.
